Stellenangebot: PhD and Post doc Position Geoscience Center Göttingen

The following positions are available in the Isotope Geology Section of the Geoscience Center of the
Georg-August-University in Göttingen (Germany; http://www.uni-goettingen.de):

PostDoc position (f/m, TV-L 13, 100%*)
PhD position (f/m, TV-L 13, 50%**)

The goal of the project is the characterization and identification of the sources for atmospheric CO2
on base of mass-independent oxygen isotope fractionation. Measurements of natural and anthropogenic
gases will be accompanied by isotope exchange laboratory experiments. The interdisciplinary
project is located between geosciences, atmospheric chemistry, climatology, soil science and biology.
Apart of working in a growing innovative and interdisciplinary research area, we invite applicants to
work with us in a young workgroup with access to a fully-equipped modern gas mass spectrometry
laboratory.
For the PostDoc position, a PhD in natural sciences is required. The applicant shall be able to independently
conduct her/his research. Experience in gas mass spectrometry is a necessary condition.
For the PhD position, minimum requirement is an university degree (master) in natural sciences.
Furthermore, the applicant should have a background in isotope geology, atmospheric chemistry or
soil sciences.
The project will begin June 1st 2009. The project is planned for a 3-years period. The positions will
be filled for 1.5 years first. An extension for another 1.5 years is anticipated.

The University of Göttingen seeks to increase the participation of women in areas in which they are
currently underrepresented and therefore explicitly urges women to apply. Disabled persons with
equivalent aptitude will be favored.
