Job Opportunity: post-doc position in Sedimentary Petrology / Sedimentology Göttingen

The Department of Sedimentology and Environmental Geology, Geoscience Center of the University
of Goettingen, is offering a
post-doc position in Sedimentary Petrology / Sedimentology
beginning October 1, 2009, or later. The appointment is for three years with an option for two more
years. Salary is based on the Public Sector Collective Agreement on Länder (100% TV-L E13). Parttime
employment is applicable on request.
The Geoscience Center in Göttingen offers a wide range of state-of-the-art analytical facilities and an
excellent environment for geological, sedimentological and geochemical research (http://www.gzg.unigoettingen.
de). We are seeking for a gifted and motivated scientist to complete our international
research team (currently 4 post-docs/staff positions, 6 Ph.D. students).
The successful candidate has finished his/her excellent doctoral thesis no longer than three years ago.
Ongoing and future research should focus on one or more of the major research topics of the
department, such as sedimentology/basin analysis, sedimentary petrology/geochemistry, detrital geo-
/thermochronology and provenance analysis. Further expertise in programming, modeling software,
(geo)statistics, and/or GIS are highly welcome.
Teaching duties (4 hours/week during lecture periods) comprise sedimentary petrology as well as
sedimentary facies and basin analysis at various levels, including field trips.
